JamPlay is a great online guitar lesson. I have tried the program and found it to be straightforward and easy to understand. They add new lessons and updates regularly (every month, 11 new hours of videos).
The people behind JamPlay are continually adding new songs (these are real songs from real bands. For instance, they have new sections on how to play Beatles songs. These are some awesome stuff).
All the videos are done professionally, shot in HD. Unlike the videos you see on YouTube where you have to strain to see the fret positions or fingering, watching JamPlay videos are easy on the eyes. Whether you are a beginner, or you already know how to play the guitar, you will find this training system easy and very useful.
Even advanced guitar players will find this program helpful – particularly in the “Song” and “Genre” lessons. In my opinion, this is the best part about JamPlay.
After you have gone through the fundamental lessons, you will have the chance to focus on playing your favorite genre of music – from blues to R&B to metal. Since I wanted to learn R&B style, I was very thrilled when I got to that part.
Overall, JamPlay is a great program to learn how to play guitar and is my first choice – highly recommended.

The Guitar Tricks Core Learning System is a revolutionary training program for beginners and intermediate players. It has over 8000 lessons that cover a wide range of lessons – from holding a pick to more advanced concepts (This makes Guitar Tricks the largest and most comprehensive guitar training course available). If you are someone who does not want the boring and traditional lesson songs but prefers to play real music, this is the perfect choice for you.
I was thoroughly impressed when I initially tried out the program. It lives up to its name as the most comprehensive training solutions online. Advanced guitar players may not find something much new here but I was a beginner, and I noticed much intermediate training.
You may already know how to play, but you will still learn new techniques from Guitar Tricks. Overall, it is a great and easy way to learn how to play the instrument. It is very convenient to use – I can watch the videos on my iPad with my instrument in hand. The best part though is you get to learn real-life songs. Next thing you know, you will be able to play some stuff by Jimi Hendrix and so much more.
If you want to learn how to play the guitar and guitar chords, I highly recommend this product. But JamPlay is still my number 1 choice.
• $10 monthly
• $60 yearly

2. 60 Day Money Back Guarantee
3. Lessons are Downloadable (great for off-line viewing)
4. Includes 4 Free Bonuses
1. Instructors are not the “famous” ones
2. Limited “popular song” database and no “genre” training
Jamorama is another guitar tutorial available online, but it is a bit different from the two programs we have mentioned above. Its structure may be different from the above courses, but it has a lot of great lessons for beginners and intermediate guitar players alike.
Mark McKenzie, apparently known as the “Guitar Guy,” is the man behind Jamorama. When I initially started with the program, it was the first time I heard of him. Jamorama may not have the big names that some courses have, but that didn’t put me off. Since Mark offers some lessons on integrating speed into playing, I was sure I would still learn quite a bit. He also has some “workout” series, which seems great.
Jamorama may come with a super-affordable price (nothing beats $10 per month), and yet it still includes a few bonus pieces of software. This software helps train your ears to recognize notes, scales, chords, and more – which comes in handy when you want to learn a new song you heard on the radio or YouTube. You will also get a tuning software, a music reading game, and a metronome to help with your timing.
This program may not have all the add-ons as the other two but what you get are still valuable and helpful lessons. If you want to learn about speed playing and some of the other tricks Mark teach, you need to try this course.
• $29 per month
• $75 for three months(25% savings)
• $139 for a year ($63 Savings)
1. Free Trial for 3 Days
2. Over 1500 Individual Lessons to Learn
3. Covers Music Theory and Offers Genre-Specific Training
4. 100% Money Back Guarantee
1. Most Expensive Option
2. The Additional DVDs are available outside the membership
If you want to learn how to play the guitar, GuitarJamz offers a few different options. Just like the other training programs on this page, GuitarJamz has a membership area but it also offer a series of different DVDs that you can buy outside the membership.
Since the cost of this product is more expensive than the other online guitar lessons, you expect everything to is included in the package. That’s what you will normally think when you see both DVDs and membership available. However, this may not be the case. What GuitarJamz offers seems all-inclusive at first look.
Instead of getting both the DVDs and membership, I think the DVDs are for those who don’t want a membership. This course will be beneficial from complete beginners to experienced ones. On one hand, if you want to master the instrument as a beginner, and you want to get everything (over 1500 lessons plus videos), then go for the monthly membership. On the other hand, if you already know how to play but you want to improve in a specific area, and then I suggest you choose a specific set of DVDs.
I would still recommend this program because there is an option for everyone. The expensive monthly membership fee is its only drawback. You can check out some of the DVDs they offer and see if there is something that interests you – there are many options available.
Which Program is the Best?
After reading above and learning all about the top online guitar lessons, you may be wondering which one to choose.
Before making up your mind, I suggest you go through each of our full guitar lessons review on this site. Although the amount of information you will see may be a lot to go through, it will help you make the right decision.
If you want to know my take on this, here is what I think:
In my opinion, the first thing you can do is to subscribe to both JamPlay and Guitar Tricks.
Yup… both. Although these programs offer different things, they can be both beneficial.
JamPlay has a huge number of videos (and some of the best lessons), some big names behind the program, write-ups that cover almost everything, and lessons for singing while playing guitar.
Guitar Tricks has a huge number of songs that you get to learn. I like the program because of the layout and interface.
They both have money-back guarantees. You can subscribe to both and try out JamPlay first (it only offers a seven-day money back guarantee). If you like it, stick with it. Otherwise, you can cancel. You’ve got nothing to lose.
After JamPlay, try Guitar Tricks. With this program, you have a longer time to decide if you want to stick with it or not.
Trying out both of these programs does not cost a lot. Besides, you have the time to test it out first.
The Runner Up
If you only want to try out one first or you are a little short on cash, I suggest you go for Jamorama.
At $10 per month, it is the cheapest option, and it comes with a full money back guarantee. You can subscribe to Jamorama, try it for a couple of weeks, and see if it will work well for you.
If it is not to your liking, you may want to go with the other courses.
What About GuitarJamz?
I may not have recommended GuitarJamz flat-out, but this does not mean that it is not a good tutorial site. I base my opinion on the program’s price and perceived value.
For me, I think you can get a lot from the other three courses for half the price.
The cost does not mean GuitarJamz is a bad guitar tutorial. You might like some of their specific training DVDs. If it is something that interests you, then it is worth checking out.
So what should you do? Try out Guitar Tricks and JamPlay – my personal favorite is JamPlay. I have actually subscribed for a full year to make sure I can go through everything at my own pace.
I initially got the free trial but loved it so much I got a full year. I should probably mention I also subscribed to Guitar Tricks and it’s a great second choice.
