That’s for checking out our Jamplay review. I will keep this review updated with every section worth mentioning. JamPlay constantly adds up to 11 hours of new videos every month. Now that will keep their members busy for a long time.
As for my personal experience and opinion of JamPlay, I reckon it is one of the best online training programs that I have ever tried so far. Another online program that I like is Guitar Tricks. Both programs have something different to offer, which makes them both essential if you want to acquire mastery of the guitar.
My Experience with JamPlay
I have always been a music lover, and I yearn to learn. I wanted to learn how to play the guitar, even before I learned how to sing. I wanted to become a rock star!
Imagine my surprise when my parents gave me a guitar for my 9th birthday (or 10th, can’t remember exactly) as a present. When they said I could take lessons, I was ecstatic! Unfortunately, my excitement died out quickly.
The lessons and even the teachers were boring and dry. How could I be excited when all they tell me to do is to “practice my scales” or learn an old ass song I don’t care to learn.
Nope – that’s not what I needed.
I’d still play from time to time, but I barely knew anything. I didn’t know a chord, a proper pick, or even a fret technique. I was self-taught, and I didn’t know that much.
But my desire to play was still burning inside me. I wanted to master the guitar. I wanted to play the songs I like and not some old, forgotten song I don’t know!
Mastering the instrument was my dream… It was supposed to be fun, right?
The Beauty of the Internet
I decided I should learn how to play the proper way. Besides, I had tried online singing lessons to become a better singer. There must be something there for musical instruments too.
A friend of mine, who is also a guitarist, recommended JamPlay. I had heard and read some great feedback about the program, so I decided to check it out. I eventually took the plunge and got access to the program.
Everything looked professional with super high-quality videos. The quality got me excited. What’s even better is they got some great names behind their training (Steve Stevens from Billy Idol is one of them)
Learning the Proper Way
When I got access to the program, I was eager to start immediately. It was impressive and overwhelming.
They just have so much great stuff that I can’t wait to learn!
The way the lessons are laid out and the way the instructors teach the lessons are perfect for beginners and experts alike.
You can choose wherever you want to start – either from the beginning or straight to learning a particular skill, style, or song you like.
What’s even better is you can learn however you want, wherever you want. You can use the program’s mobile video streaming on your phone or tablet and up to 720 HD video on your computer or laptop.
You have the convenience of learning at your pace. Since I like to keep on going, this program worked well for me. I don’t like to wait for a week for my next lesson!
The Best Part
For me, the best part of the program is there is so much great stuff to learn, and you can learn at your pace.
Since I know music and the basics, I raced through the fundamental sections and went straight to learning the skills (singing while playing) and styles (Funk, R&B, etc.) I want.
This program offers a variety of lessons. I also like programs like Guitar Tricks, but JamPlay has so much to offer in terms of skills and styles.
The types of songs available to learn are good, but it kept me wanting for more. They have a lot of rock and country music, but not much in other genres.
That fact did not bother me much because there are many songs to learn in different genres. Besides, they keep in adding more songs all the time.
Another drawback is that it only has a 7-day money back guarantee, which is somewhat short. Since they offer thousands of lessons and a lot of styles and skills, one week is not enough to go through the whole program.
One week is enough, though, to sample all the contents and see if it is right for you. That’s what I did.
My Personal Results
By sticking with JamPlay’s methods, I have seen some big improvements in the way I play the instrument. I started to learn to play complete songs, actual guitar chords, and melodies.
Personally, I like the program’s teaching style and methods, more so the videos. It wasn’t boring and dry, and I always feel excited to learn new stuff.
Learning the fundamentals of scales and notes may not exactly be exciting, but it’s necessary. The fun part is that soon I would be able to play the music I wanted.
I dedicated my time and practiced diligently. Whether it was finger movements, fret movements, or my overall playing ability, I was able to pick up concepts and got better quickly.
I have learned how to play different music styles like R&B, rock, folk, and country music. With constant practice and with the help of this site, I’m sure I will be able to achieve mastery of the instrument.
It hasn’t been that long since I started learning, and yet I can already play better. There are a couple of online courses that I have already tried, and JamPlay is one of the best (if not the best guitar tutorial online).
As someone who had gone through the core content and the different lessons, I can say that this program is highly recommended. If you are someone who wants to learn how to play the guitar quickly and easily, you should try JamPlay out.
On a Side Note:
I truly love JamPlay, but I would also recommend Guitar Tricks. So, in addition to JamPlay, Guitar Tricks is another program that you can try.
There is some stuff that you can learn exclusively from each of these programs, which are worth the price of the subscription alone.
On one hand, JamPlay contains certain concepts that you won’t find in other programs. On the other hand, Guitar Tricks has a very different set of songs to learn, which are not in JamPlay.
So, if you can afford it, I’d say you get both programs (It will only cost you $30 plus they both have money back guarantee offers)

Inside JamPlay – an In-Depth Review
This program is broken down into three initial phases.
It also offers flexibility. You can choose which concepts to learn first and focus on what interests you.
If you want to master the instrument, you can learn everything here at JamPlay. They use HD videos for more effective teaching.
Phase 1 – Beginner Guitar Lessons
Phase 1 covers the fundamentals – the beginner lessons. Technically, this section is for two sets of beginners – complete beginners and self-taught guitarists.
For those who have zero knowledge of playing the guitar, there is one section for complete beginners like you. For self-taught guitarists, there is another section for you to help fill the gaps in your learning.
Phase 1 goes into the fundamentals of everything you will learn in the next phases and lessons.
Beginner – I Have Never Played
• Music Theory
• Holding The Pick
• Chords and Scales
• Proper Fret-Hand Posture
• Playing Posture
• The Guitar Body and Maintenance
• Strumming Techniques and Rhythm
Beginner – I Am Self Taught
• Reading Tab and Sheet Music
• What Makes A Chord a Chord
• Time Signatures
• Scale Relationships to Chords
• Utilizing The Metronome
• Understanding Music Modes
• Building Your Practice Routine
• Putting Together Chord Progressions
Phase 2 – Genre Specific and Skill Based Lessons
Phase 2 is where JamPlay shines. They have a vast collection of music styles to learn that it’s just incredible. Whichever genre you choose to play, you will be in a gold mine of tutorials.
If you want to learn more than one style, you can do so. Jamplay doesn’t limit you to one style; you can learn them all if you want.
Once all the different sections are complete, you will acquire different guitar skills that will make you say you are a real master. As mentioned, this is the best part of JamPlay. So many skills, so many styles.
Music Styles – Your Favorite Genres
• Hawaiian Slack Key
• R&B / Soul
I told you there were plenty
After going through the basics and the music genre you like, you can then focus on skills and specialization.
Guitar Skills – Becoming a Master
• Speed and Technique (technical precision)
• Lead Concepts and Techniques (solos, melodies, improv)
• Reading Music and Rhythms
• Helpers and Tips (pull-offs, hammer-ons, harmonics, rakes,)
• Theory and Improvisation (responding and improvising)
• Singing With Guitar (a section I was looking forward to)
• 12 String
• Ear Training (identify keys, chords, etc.)
• Rhythm Training
• Instrument Care and Maintenance
• Studio Skills (creating a personal home studio)
If you check the list of guitar skills, you’ll notice they have a module on Studio Skills – a lesson you won’t see in other programs. Now you have an idea why JamPlay one of the most comprehensive courses available online.
It’s not just because of the number of videos but because of the variety of lessons you can learn. I can say that this is an all-encompassing course.
Phase 3 – Song Lessons
Phase 3 is great. However, the lists of songs you can learn in different genres are limited.
But this shouldn’t stop you from learning. JamPlay also has a lot of great music to learn. You can learn from their online videos along with guitar tabs to follow the lessons easily. Great system, right?
Aside from Metal and Rock, I just hope they have more songs in other genres. Say, I’m more into R&B Soul classics. They only have a song or two under this genre.
You can find tabs for different songs online, so this isn’t a problem at all. In fact, JamPlay will teach you how to read tabs effectively.
Here are some of the popular songs you will learn in JamPlay
• Elvis Presley – Heart Break Hotel
• CCR – Down On The Corner
• James Brown – Super Bad Super Slick
• John Mayer – Daughters
• Staind – Outside
• System of A Down – Toxicity
• Metallica – Blackened
• Nirvana – Lithium
• And Many More
You will also learn many great songs in the following genres:
• Holiday Songs,
So, there’s no need to worry. You still have many to learn, and they are continually adding more.
After the First 3 Phases
After going through the lessons in the first 3 phases, you will get some extra stuff that will fire up your interest even more. They don’t just stop at the lessons, you know. It is an entire system designed to help you master the guitar.
The Artist Series
This section is cool. Here you will learn from some of the music industry’s guitarists who will show you their unique styles.
From major music industry session players to some of the biggest bands’ lead guitarists, you will learn only from the experts.
Who would have thought you‘d be able to learn and play with rock legend Steve Stevens from Billy Idol?
With JamPlay, that’s possible.
Influenced by the Styles of
The Artist Series don’t just stop there. There may be some lessons that are not taught by the artists themselves, but these are lessons taught by qualified instructors influenced by the styles of:
• BB King
• Jimi Hendrix
• Carlos Santana
• Tom Morello
• John Mayer
• Keith Urban
• And Many More…
You wouldn’t want to miss some of these awesome stuff. These can serve as your motivation to get through the basic lessons immediately and continue with the next lessons.
Exclusive on JamPlay – Live Lessons
The Live Lessons section is another precious gem that comes with you monthly subscription. Here you will have the chance to have daily sessions directly with JamPlay instructors through text chat and webcam-to-webcam video streams.
If you still think that online lessons can’t be as effective as private tutorials, think again. JamPlay does a great job of bridging that gap.
Bass Guitar Lessons
I have not learned how to play bass guitar yet (but I will soon), so there’s nothing much for me to say here. Aside from lessons on playing acoustic and electric guitars, they also offer lessons on bass guitars.
These are all included with your subscription.
There are more bells and whistles included with your subscription.
You can use custom reports to monitor your progress. See how far you have gone and how fast you have learned.
As part of the JamPlay community, thousands of other guitar enthusiasts are there to help you out.
In my opinion, you will find this as the most comprehensive scale libraries online. Aside from the fret-board diagram, you will be able to see almost any scale in any key.
These are interactive games to help you learn and master the guitar.
Some of the games included are:
• Music Notation Quizzes
• Fretboard Memorization
• Pitch Recognition
• Note Identification
If you’ve read this Jamplay review and are still not convinced it’s the best choice, then you haven’t been reading properly!
Everything you need to learn is here. I found it fun to go through. I may still be in the process of learning, but I have already learned so much by just going through the first few lessons. I can truly say that my skills have greatly improved.
Of course, practice is necessary and also something that’s completely up to you. But I’m telling you, you have to practice daily. The more you practice, they faster you’ll learn.
If you’re looking for a program that will teach you all the essentials in mastering the instrument, and you want something that’s easy to use, then I suggest you get this program.
If you have the extra cash (an additional $15), then I suggest you also get Guitar Tricks. Both of these programs have different stuff, which can benefit you. If you can only choose one, then I suggest you go with JamPlay.
